One of the perfect weekends in London

Was between 7th and 12th of November :) Yeah, it wasn’t really a weekend, but for most people in France it was a long one (some bank holiday again). So we chose to spend it in a England , as I haven’t had been there before and I always wanted to do this.

Why perfect? Because of three reasons:

- I met Dora there, after 4 months of not seeing each other

- I met Adina, my friend from Fagaras, after 1 year and 2 months

- I had enough time to get to know this London city, a little bit :)

I don’t even know from where to start. We did a lot of things, we walked a lot (my muscles still hurt after 2 days), we visited the National Gallery, the British Museum , Tate Modern (this is an exposition of contemporary art… the most stupid thing I have ever seen in my life!), we saw the London Eye, the Westminster Abbey, the House of Parliament, Big Ben, etc. What else? Well, we also had a LOT of fun at Madame Tussauds (the museum of stars made out of wax) – now I have my picture with Tom Cruise (and many others :P)!

We ate a lot of sushi (even cooked some at home, which turned out to be really tasty!!), chocolate waffles in the Camden Market (OMG!), celebrated with Martini our meeting in a very nice city, took a lot of interesting pictures (especially the ones in the tube), tried to get used to the bad weather in England (it was raining almost all the time… yack!). We went shopping (I bought boots!!!), and also visited some shops (this was the purpose… I wish we could have another one): Hamley’s (toys shop…. Huuuge, 5 floors of toys, games, Barbies, etc.) and Harrods – the most expensive mall in London – you could find here everything starting with Gucci, Armani, Prada, Dior, Versace, Valentino, Switzerland watches and chocolate, French cheese and boulangerie, etc… ANYTHING!

How is London comparing it to Paris ? - this is the question that I heard most often since I got back. Well, it’s different! They have very few things in common, but I really like them both. Paris is more romantic, more artistic, the architecture is older and the style is older (which makes is really special). The atmosphere is more relaxed, even though it is more crowded than London . The people are more divers and more open from what I heard and noticed. On the other hand, London is very cosmopolitan, it has a lot of huge buildings (modern style), especially a part of it called Canary Wharf . It looks amazing with so much glass and the Thames around the buildings. Excellent! The center is very chic, with those British pubs, always full of people (if they couldn’t fit in, they were drinking their beer in front of the pub) that don’t care about what’s going on around them :)

Other impressions:

- I was almost hit by cars several times, because I was always looking in the other direction (it’s hard to get used to cars driving on the other side of the road)

- the train that we were taking to get to the center has a really nice itinerary between the big glassy buildings, crossing the water (Thames) several times, then passing through a rally cute neighbor of small houses

- British people are very diplomatic and you can see this even in the way they dress, or on their faces

- There is no point in having an umbrella in London, because at a certain time you get tired taking it out of the purse and then put it back (because the rain stopped), and then repeat the process… so, better off without it! :)

Other type of impressions:

- I thought it will be a little bit weird to meet my friends after so much time, but no, not at all. It was so normal to see them, as if I saw them yesterday and the day before. It’s true that we were talking a lot, catching up, but it was like time has stopped during all this period. And this is good!

- We changed a lot, all 3 of us. And I think it is in a good way. I can’t say it about me (it’s subjective), but Dora and Adina are different from what I used to know. They are more mature, and I must add more crazy, thinking about the future, planning, making decisions (running for MCP or not, career directions, objectives for the future, new ambitions for everybody), etc.

All in all, it was a really enjoyable weekend! I wish I could say I rested a lot, but nope, I am more tired than after 2 weeks of work! And I like it: P I had the chance to take a break and to reset my priorities.

Next move: Lisbon, Paris or Copenhagen! :) Can't wait! :)
